Detoxing timelines can vary depending on the extent of the addiction. Dilaudid is a short-acting drug, which means you feel the effects immediately after consumption. Withdrawal can start as soon as 4-8 hours after last consumption. The general timeline for detoxing is four to ten days for long-term users.
When you arrive at the detox facility you will go through a comprehensive admissions process to evaluate your medical history and a treatment plan will be created for you based on your needs.
During the first day of detox, you can expect mild withdrawal symptoms. Typically, you will experience feelings of anxiety and agitation early on as you start to crave dilaudid.
Over the next 36 to 72 hours, your symptoms will gradually get more severe before they peak. This period requires medical supervision to monitor your vitals as dilaudid withdrawal can cause seizures and sometimes even heart attacks. Prescription medications may be provided to alleviate withdrawal symptoms and reduce any cravings you may have.
When your symptoms have peaked they will slowly start to subside. In some cases, symptoms like fatigue, anxiety, muscle weakness and depression can linger for weeks or even months.
After detox, you will be discharged to a treatment center to start your inpatient or intensive outpatient treatment to support your ongoing recovery.
